Project validation

Turn an online moisture signal into a result the plant can use

A credible before-and-after result starts with the existing decision, not the sensor. The project keeps production state, reference data and operator action in the same comparison.

Turn an online moisture signal into a result the plant can use

Project validation

Four controls make the improvement measurable

The sequence separates calibration work from the data used to judge performance and records what changed in the process during the review.

01

Record the baseline

Capture throughput, material groups, sampling frequency, decision delay, exception rate and the current production result.

02

Pair online and reference data

Align sample identity, process time and online averaging window while excluding empty, uncovered or wrong-product states.

03

Validate on unused data

Judge the fixed model on an independent time period that covers the intended moisture, density, depth and temperature window.

04

Approve the operating response

Define who reviews an alarm, when a reference sample is required and which adjustment, hold or release action is permitted.

What remains in the project record

The sequence separates calibration work from the data used to judge performance and records what changed in the process during the review.

Production context
Line rate, material, product code, geometry, weather or temperature and relevant process changes
Measurement context
System configuration, installed path, status signals, filtering, software version and excluded periods
Reference context
Method, increments, sealing, timestamps, laboratory result and sample-to-signal matching
Result context
Baseline, comparison period, before-after metric, decision owner, limitations and review date

Metric definitions

Keep the numerator, denominator and clock with every result

A result is useful only when another plant can see exactly how it was calculated and which production states were excluded.

  1. 01Response time

CalculationMedian time from a valid sustained deviation to the first documented review or action.

Record with the resultState the persistence rule, excluded equipment states, shift coverage and whether the figure is a mean, median or percentile.

  2. 02Time inside or outside target

CalculationValid production minutes inside or outside the approved band divided by all valid monitored production minutes.

Record with the resultState the target band, averaging window, excluded downtime or changeovers and the included product groups.

  3. 03Inspection cycle and exception rate

CalculationElapsed time from arrival at the defined station to recorded disposition; exceptions divided by valid scans or loads.

Record with the resultKeep queueing rules, incomplete scans, damaged items and manual rechecks visible.

  4. 04Record coverage

CalculationValid inspected items with complete identity, signal or profile and final disposition divided by all valid inspected items.

Record with the resultExclude test passes and incomplete identities; state the required fields and retention period.

Project validation

Read the result in the same way the plant created it

A useful metric keeps its denominator, time window and operating rule. This prevents a fast signal, a laboratory value and a business outcome from being treated as though they measured the same thing.

01

Compare like operating periods

Keep product mix, line rate, maintenance stops and weather visible. If the production window changed, report the change beside the moisture result instead of hiding it inside one average.

02

Separate simultaneous improvements

Record dryer tuning, recipe changes, operator training and maintenance completed during the review. The moisture system should receive credit only for the decision path it actually changed.

03

Keep the reference method active

Online measurement improves timing and coverage; the approved reference protects calibration, release and dispute handling. The project defines how often the reference is repeated after commissioning.
